The computer industry is constantly changing. In order to keep up and to become a part of the computing world, our School of Computer Studies can provide you with the skills necessary to be competitive in the workforce. However, it all begins with computer basics that will prepare you for common office software, programming, or web design.

Description of computer subjects

Word-Processing (MS Word)
The student will learn how to word-process, which means learning to create, edit, format and process all types of documents using the computer. This area is very important and valuable in the IT office or home use, whether personal or business. You will learn how to use the software MS Word, the most popular application to date. The student will also improve typing skills during the course. You will feel confident enough to create different types of letters such as CV, cover letter, personal/informal letters, etc.

Back

Spreadsheet (MS Excel)
This area is for students to learn the use of computers to help in table calculations, create charts and numerical analysis such as forecasting. This area is used in accounting, stocks and shares control, banking, or any other business that requires calculations.

Back

Internet Web Page (MS FrontPage, HTML, JavaScript)
With the increasing popularity of the Internet, many businesses are starting or have already started their own Internet website. This, of course, will require people who can design, create and maintain the pages that make up these websites.

Back

Desktop Publishing (MS Publisher, Adobe PageMaker)
This area is also known as DTP for short. It is concerned with being able to create and, most important; design pages for newspapers, flyers, brochures, calendars, books and so on. DTP is used in companies which design newspapers, advertisements, magazines and reports.

Borland Pascal Programming
This are is suitable for those who are new to programming.  It is essential that they begin learning an easier computer language before they start on more difficult ones such as C/C++.

Back

C/C++ Programming
In this area we will teach you how to write C++ language code to produce all sorts of computer programs. Although C++ is more difficult to learn than other computer languages, most commercial software is written using the C or C++ language.

Back

MS Visual Basic Programming
This is also a fairly easy language to learn. It allows for creation of window screens and is suitable for producing commercial looking applications. The language is also convenient for all companies allowing for easy maintenance and quick development of custom software.

Back

Database (MS Access)
You learn how to use, design and implement relational database systems which are an essential computer tool in many companies. They are concerned with organising and managing large amounts of data.
