Information Technology

BCS, The Chartered Institute for IT (formerly known as British Computer Society) mission is to enable the information society. They promote wider social and economic progress through the advancement of information technology science and practice.BCS brings together industry, academics, practitioners and government to share knowledge, promote new thinking, inform the design of new curricula, shape public policy and inform the public. Their vision is to be a world-class organisation for IT. Over 70,000 strong memberships include practitioners, businesses, academics and students in the UK and overseas. They deliver a range of professional development tools for practitioners and employees. A leading IT qualification body and offer a range of widely recognised qualifications.

BCS has many responsibilities under its Royal Charter. One is to develop and maintain standards in educational qualifications that provide an appropriate foundation for those who wish to follow a career in computing or information systems. As part of this responsibility, BCS undertakes a programme of visits to Universities and other Higher Education Institutions to review computing courses .Courses are accredited for Chartered IT Professional (CITP), BCS's own Chartered qualification. Additionally, as a Nominated Body of the Engineering Council and the Science Council BCS is licensed to accredit courses at Chartered or Incorporated Engineer and Chartered Scientist level.

BCS Certificate in Information Technology NQF level 4

This is the foundation level of Higher Education Qualifications. This level is the academic equivalent to Year 1 of a UK university honours degree and is recognised by the Qualifications and Curriculum Authority (QCA) as Level 4.

Completion of the Certificate in IT level means you are eligible to apply for BCS Associate Membership (AMBCS).

Course Structure

Candidates must complete Three modules, which are mandatory before the Award can be issued.

BCS Diploma in Information Technology NQF level 5

This is the Diploma level of Higher Education Qualifications.This level is the academic equivalent to Year 2 of a UK university honours degree and is recognised by the Qualifications and Curriculum Authority (QCA) as Level 5.

Course Structure

Candidates must attempt a minimum of four modules in total. One module is mandatory and the candidate must complete three of the ten optional modules successfully before the Award can be issued.

BCS Professional Graduate Diploma in Information Technology NQF level 6

This level is the academic equivalent to Year 3 of a UK university honours degree. It is recognised by the Qualifications and Curriculum Authority (QCA) as Level 6.

Course Structure

Candidates must attempt to complete four of the following optional modules. The course culminates in a 3 hour written exam focusing on four of the below modules of your choice. Please be aware that practical experience is required to answer some parts of the exam.

In order to finish the Professional Graduate Diploma in IT level candidates must complete a project, which will be the academic equivalent of a UK university honours degree project
